Entry Requirements

Flinders University recognises international secondary schooling for direct entry to undergraduate programs.

SACE stage two general mathematics. Assumed knowledge Knowledge of SACE stage two physics or equivalent is assumed.

English language requirements

  • IELTS (Academic): 6.0 Overall with 6.0 Speaking, 6.0 Writing;
  • TOEFL iBT: 72 Overall with 18 Speaking, 21 Writing;
  • Pearson PTE Academic: 50 Overall with 50 Speaking, 50 Writing;
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced: 169 Overall with 169 Writing, 169 Speaking;
  • Occupational English Test (OET): 300 Speaking, 300 Writing; Duolingo (Up to and including Semester 2, 2024): Overall 95-100

Course Details

This future-oriented course enables you to choose a course of study with either an electronics or computer science focus. It provides you with a solid foundation in the technical and professional skills and knowledge required to pursue a successful career in the software industry.

What you will study

First year

A typical first year may include:

core topics in software engineering such as programming, digital and analogue electronics, mathematics, professional skills, database systems, and software engineering.

Second year

A typical second year may include:

  • core topics in computer programming, software engineering, engineering design, and engineering mathematics
  • a choice of electronics or computer-based topics.

Third year

A typical third year may include:

  • core topics in computer mathematics, computer programming, project management for engineering and science, software engineering, and workplace preparation
  • a choice of either an electronics or computer-based topic
  • a 20-week industry placement program.

Fourth year / Honours year

A typical honours year may include:

  • a major software engineering thesis allowing high-performing students to progress to a higher degree by research
  • topics in software engineering, and standards, ethics and compliance
  • a selection of electives in allied science and engineering areas.
