Course Details

Examine how natural processes and their changes impact human society, and how human activities interact with and modify environments. This multidisciplinary degree focuses on understanding, monitoring and improving the environment. Expand your knowledge, obtain skills, and learn critical thinking about environmental issues and problems.

What you will study

First year

A typical first year may include:

  • core topics in evolution of biological diversity, earth and environmental science, marine sciences, introduction to geographical information systems, and the nature of science
  • a mathematics or numeracy topic
  • a range of elective topics.

Second year

A typical second year may include:

  • core topics in global climate change, geological processes, introduction to remote sensing, hydrology, and environmental change and human health
  • a topic in Australian environmental change or ecology
  • a range of elective topics.

Third year

A typical third year may include:

  • core topics in the microbiology of our environment, field studies in environmental disciplines, the geology of Australia, and ecohydrology
  • topics in applied environmental practice
  • a range of elective topics.

Honours year

A typical honours year may include:

  • a major environmental science research thesis allowing high-performing students to progress to a higher degree by research
  • further development of professional skills, particularly those relevant to research and development.
