Walford Anglican School for Girls

Entry Requirements

Course Details

From her first day at Walford, your daughter will be encouraged to think, ask questions, reflect and take action. She will be equipped with the skills to inquire deeply into her learning, make connections and achieve her best.

Learning and Teaching

The Primary Years Programme (PYP), the first phase of the International Baccalaureate continuum, provides the framework for learning in the Walford Junior School. Through inquiry, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning, delving richly and deeply into concepts that are linked to globally relevant, real-life situations.

The core subjects of English, Mathematics, History, Science, Geography and Technologies are integrated into the units of Inquiry. Learning is enriched with specialised subjects including Music, French, Physical Education and Art.

Strong literacy and numeracy skills are developed through explicit and targeted teaching in discreet blocks of time across the week as well as within subjects. Specialist teachers from the secondary school provide further enrichment within Mathematics and Science as we intentionally target individual growth and engagement in literacy and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning.

Targeting the growth of each learner is enabled through Walford’s LINC model. Literacy, Ignite, Numeracy Co-educators work alongside highly qualified teachers to provide enrichment and additional support when required to help each student grow her proficiency in English and Mathematics. Reading, writing, mathematical computation and spelling is supported in class or in small working groups outside of class as required.
