Master of Psychology (Clinical)

Entry Requirements

Entry is available to graduates with a four-year qualification in Psychology or equivalent (including Honours with a minimum grade of Second Class, Division A and an individually-conducted research project carrying 33% or more of the year's work). The degree must meet the standards set out by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC), including the accredited sequence in Psychology having been completed within the last 10 years. Applicants who have an overseas Honours qualification should supply a certified copy of the assessment of their qualifications by the Australian Psychological Society (APS), and information about the research component of their qualifications.

IELTS: Overall band score of 7.0 and Band score of 7.0 in all bands; TOEFL total score of 94 with a minimum of 27 in Writing, 23 in Speaking and 24 in Reading and Listening; Pearson Test of English (Academic) overall score of 65 and Skills profile of 65 in Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening; and Cambridge English-Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 185 and Individual score of 185 in Writing and Speaking, Reading and Listening.

Course Details

Our Master of Psychology (Clinical) provides the knowledge and skills needed to practise as a registered psychologist.

Clinical psychologists work with clients with high and low prevalent mental health issues—from anxiety and depression to disability and relationship challenges.

Where could it take you?

Upon successful completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. You’ll be set to find work in a wide variety of public and private settings. To gain clinical endorsement, further postgraduate supervision is required.

Career Readiness

The Master of Psychology (Clinical) prepares graduates for registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA). With additional supervised work experience as prescribed by the PBA, graduates can become clinical psychologists. Clinical psychologists have specialist skills in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of major mental illnesses and psychological problems.

Degree Structure

This program commences in January of the first year of study. Students enrolled in full-time study will complete seven courses of study and one placement during the first year and two further placements and the research project during the second year. The research thesis is in the form of a literature review and a research article of a specified length.
