I am Alberto. I am Colombian and am currently studying a Master of Engineering (Mechanical) at Flinders University. I found Adelaide to be a balanced blend of beaches, natural parks, restaurants, short commuting times, and, of course, high-quality education. It is a place that has given me good memories, and that is what inspires me to be part of the Student Ambassador Team. I always repeat to myself, "When it feels scary to jump, that is exactly when I should jump,". 

So my piece of advice is that even though moving away from home, studying, and possibly working might seem challenging, it might also be a unique opportunity to make friends from all around the world, try new foods, learn new skills, and much more.

I’m Ngoc-Bich (Alex) Nguyen from Vietnam. I'm in my first year of Master of Data Science at The University of Adelaide. I'm an ordinary person just like you. I believe the small, simple things in life matter the most, like spending time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, and doing good deeds for others. I enjoy reading Harry Potter, watching Netflix/ Disney+, wandering in nature, and exploring new places. I’m always looking for ways to learn new things through life experiences and people I have met. 

My advice for new international students: Adelaide is the best welcoming city that I’ve been to. Just be yourselves and explore this place! Try your best to study and work as well as take time to go hiking or beaches (nature would help you a lot in balancing your life *wink*). And, even if you’re a regular person who isn’t a big deal, you have your own value and still have a lot to offer this world. Be yourself!

I'm Alex, your resident student nurse at the University of South Australia. I grew up in the Philippines but I eventually found home in Adelaide, and we're here to help you find yours! 

Good food, coffee, fantasy books, and great friends are the ones that make up my home. If everything and everyone around you feels intimidating, just remind yourself that we’re all a little bit crazy, a 'lil bit lost and still finding our way around life! 

Starting university miles away from your comfort zone can be daunting especially when assignments and exams pile up and all you want is to sleep (or eat!). My one tip to unwind is to ... CRY! No, for real, crying releases chemicals that we know as endorphins (like oxytocin) that make us feel good! A well-planned crying sesh is my go-to (along with iced coffee and books) whenever I feel stuck and when my brain is not braining.

My name is Angela. I’m a Ugandan + Rwandan with a Pharma background studying a Master of Public Health at Flinders University. I am also a mum so I spend most of my free time exploring Adelaide with my toddler. Adelaide is super inclusive with fantastic playgrounds, beautiful beaches and libraries catering to tots and adults too! 

A couple of pieces of advice I have for students and prospective students is to be a great planner. Plan fun in your time. Ask for help where you need it! Most people are happy to help or point you in the right direction. Remember that this phase might be super busy but it doesn’t last forever.  

Go for it! We are rooting for you! 

I'm from New Delhi, India and I'm in my 3rd and final year, pursuing a bachelor's in business administration (marketing) degree.  Being from India, **surprise suprise**, I love cricket and aspire to become a professional cricket player who is currently representing Port Adelaide in the SACA competition. I love to play and watch other sports as well! 

A huge follower of 'not keeping all of my eggs in one basket', I'm not just a cricketer, I'm a business owner, a YouTuber, a content creator, an avid book reader, and many more things.  Never saying 'no' to trying new things has helped me grow as an individual and equipped me with skills that I never could have imagined.  Strong believer in 'starting with hope' and the art of manifestation has helped me tackle different challenges and take baby steps towards my goals. 

Australia is a land of opportunities, and there are numerous 'doors' at your disposal, it's always about knocking on the right ones and talking to the right people. No points for guessing, Networking is the 'key' (pun intended)

I am Aumio from Bangladesh, having moved to Adelaide this February to pursue a Master of Biotechnology at Flinders University. I am excited to be able to work towards a career in research, especially in a place like Adelaide which has so much to offer! 

Just last month I saw Animals as Leaders, one of my favourite bands ever, live at the Lion Arts Factory, and I am seeing Alfa Mist next month, all of which is feels surreal to say the least. I love that there are hiking trails very close to me, and I can go explore whenever I have time away from assignments. I also read loads and have found it very easy to find communities around my interests in Adelaide.

 I’m a 20 year old student from Sri Lanka studying Advanced Arts majoring in Anthropology and Politics. I’m  hoping to pursue a career in politics in the future. I spend my free time reading and playing with my cat, Cleopatra. My piece of advice for students that come to Adelaide to study is that this is a new beginning. I am Cauthan from Uganda. I am studying Diploma in Information Technology(Programming) at TAFE SA. 

I have loved living in Adelaide for many reasons one being the multi-cultural life . I love to meet new people , make friends, and  learn about the unfamiliar cultures of people. I also enjoy going swimming and playing tennis. My favourite thing to do in Adelaide is going to the beach, I love rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the shore. 

My piece of advice to students is to get out of your comfort zone and put yourself out there even when you are at your lowest.

My name is Charlene and I’m from Hong Kong. I’m a first-year physiotherapy student at Unisa. 

I moved to Adelaide 3 years ago when I was 15, and I have been loving my experience in Australia ever since. Although it was a bit challenging to adjust initially, I have grown to love the relaxed atmosphere, cultural diversity, and the opportunity to meet fascinating people here in Adelaide.  

I am a music lover, I listen to Spotify 24/7 and play the guitar, clarinet and piano. I like to participate in sports like basketball, netball and have recently started playing frisbee. I also relish the opportunity to hang out with friends and admire the beautiful sunsets at beaches.  

Some advice that I would like to offer is to take risks and try new things that may be outside of your comfort zone. It's important to remain authentic and true to your values while keeping an open mind to new opportunities that may arise. Last but not least, always extend a helping hand to those in need to positively impact their lives!

I love the outdoors so hiking, going to the beach or just taking a walk somewhere is how I unwind. Adelaide has a lot to offer so go out and explore.

I'm Gul, a student from India currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Media and Communications at UniSA.  

It has been over a year since I arrived in Adelaide, and I couldn't have asked for a friendlier place to be as a student.  

When I'm not busy procrastinating on my assessments, I love discovering new places to eat (although I tend to end up in Chinatown every time haha). I also enjoy spending time outdoors and in my kitchen. Places like the Botanic Gardens and Himeji are among my favorites for connecting with nature.  

My advice to fellow international students is to explore this city as much as possible (it is so pretty), ask for help (Google can't solve everything), and remember, along with education, food and adventures are also the true MVPs of student life!

I for one enjoy art in all its forms, painting, music, pottery, drawing and cooking. Not that it wasn’t obvious I draw for the most part. Whether I'm sketching in my sketchbook, painting on a canvas, or experimenting with digital art, I am constantly inspired by the endless possibilities and the beauty of the artistic process. 

I advise you to embrace your hobbies and explore new opportunities to connect with your community. You never know what exciting adventures and learning opportunities await! 

Remember, your unique experiences and perspectives are your greatest strengths. So, keep an open mind, stay positive, and take advantage of every chance to learn and grow. As a city 'Designed for life' you'll have a great experience studying here in Adelaide and we are always happy to help you! There's so much opportunity for experiences to be had and memories to be made here. 

Studying and living far away from home can be daunting and comes with its challenges but one piece of advice I received when I got here and have used is to reach out and ask whenever you need assistance. Don’t be daunted to put yourself out there, there are no stupid questions. You'll always find someone willing to give you a helpful nudge in the right direction.

This is Rui, a Master of secondary teaching student studying at the University of Adelaide. I have been in Australia for 4 years or so, as I spent the first three years studying in Sydney before moving to Adelaide.  

Within academia I am passionate about pure mathematics and teaching. I am also fond of reading books in anthropology and psychoanalysis. Outside of study I am a big NBA obsessed and travel fiend. 

As a student ambassador, I am here to speak on my experience as an international student and share what I know with you (and also listen to what you say and learn from you!). My advice for you would be: 1) Keep lifelong learning in your mind and kick yourself out of your comfort zone to give everything a shot. 2) Find your passion / the thing you love to do, figure out how to get what you want, and then do it! 3) Meet like-minded people and build up your network by getting involved in the local community, whether that is clubs in university or great local events.
