Where are you from, and what are you studying and at which institution?

I'm from Banglashesh, and I am currently studying an Advanced Computer Science at Adelaide University.

I always knew I wanted to pursue a STEM degree, specifically in Computer Science, to develop my technical and analytical skills.

As a strong communicator and an extrovert, I felt that this field would give me a unique edge.

Computer Science is all about problem-solving. My degree has taught me to be analytical, observant, and pragmatic.

I now approach challenges with structure and confidence, analysing situations quickly and making decisions that are thoughtful and effective. It has shown me that almost every problem in the world can be solved, whether through algorithms or human logic.

The most rewarding aspect of my studies has been meeting and inspiring people within my program. Everyone here is passionate, driven, ambitious and genuinely loves what they do. Seeing that energy every day pushes me to grow and reminds me that I’ll always have support no matter the path I take.

How did you feel supported as an international student when you arrived in Adelaide?

From the very first day, when StudyAdelaide welcomed international students at the airport with goodie bags, I felt supported and cared for.

Beyond that, resources such as career counselling, student workshops, and leadership masterclasses from both StudyAdelaide and the University have helped me immensely to adjust and excel.

As someone who’s now part of the Global Mates program, I can say the reason I joined is because of the support I received when I first arrived. From pre-departure webinars to early academic workshops, the University created an environment where I could transition smoothly.

Meeting staff and alumni through Zoom sessions even before arriving was an incredible source of comfort. The University also provides PASS study sessions, writing and maths centres, and study groups hosted by clubs. There’s always help available when you need it.

What’s been your favourite experience while living and studying in Adelaide?

The friendships I’ve built and the support system I’ve found here. It’s given me a sense of belonging and confidence that I can achieve anything.

I currently serve as a Pod Leader for Global Mates, a member of the Student Engagement Committee, President of the Adelaide University Bangladeshi Students Society (AUBSS), and Marketing Manager of Robogals Adelaide. I’ve loved every bit of it.

From cultural nights to educational workshops, volunteering and leadership masterclasses, every experience has been a blessing that helped me grow as a leader and as a person.
