Getting around - transport in the Adelaide CBD

Exploring Adelaide is easy. If you're visiting from outside the CBD, Adelaide Metro provide connections via bus, train or tram from greater metropolitan Adelaide. From North Adelaide, the FREE Adelaide Connector bus loops throughout the inner city areas.

Navigating within the CBD is a breeze, thanks to the city's well-organised and efficient public transport system. The city also benefits from its grid layout, making it easy to explore with most major attractions within walking distance. The free city tram is a highlight for both visitors and locals, connecting key parts of the CBD and making it effortless to hop between landmarks.

Adelaide offers plenty of bike lanes and bike-share programs for a healthy and eco-friendly way to explore the city. For those over the age of 18 you can ride an e-scooter throughout the city and metropolitan areas.

If you're driving, there is parking offered across the city. Just be sure you familiarise yourself with South Australian road rules.

48 hours in Adelaide - a slice of the city

Day 1 - Explore the heart of Adelaide

Morning

Your Adelaide adventure begins with a serene walk, or run, along the River Torrens/Karrawirra Parri. The tranquil Riverbank trail loop will take you past the Adelaide Zoo, through the beautiful Adelaide Park Lands - it's the perfect introduction to the city's natural charm. Next, immerse yourself in the bustling vibe of Rundle Street. Here, at Exchange Coffee or Penny University, you’ll taste some of the finest coffee in the city, a testament to Adelaide's thriving café culture.

A short tram ride, or travel the Market to Riverbank walk, to get to the heart of cultural cuisine - the Adelaide Central Market. Breakfast options abound with Lucia's and Market St Cafe offering the best fresh, local produce.


Afternoon

After breakfast, make your way to Victoria Square/ Tarntanyangga, a vibrant public space and city centrepiece that often hosts various activities and events, or you might even grab a bite from a food-truck parked on the square.

The nearby Japanese Gardens, Himeji Garden, is an oasis of tranquility. Wander through perfectly landscaped paths, koi ponds and the Tea House (Chasitu).

Your stroll then leads you to the colourful and energetic Chinatown, fragrant with the spices and aromas of Asian cuisine for a tasty afternoon bite to eat.

In the West End, continue your adventure at MOD, it's an inspiring display of the city's forward thinking ethos, bringing art and science together.


Evening

As the night comes, the West End awakens. Named one of the top three coolest neighbourhoods in Australia by lonely Planet, this culinary hotspot boasts an array of dining options - both budget friendly and a splurge. From the rustic, local charm of Peel St Restaurant to the Asian fusion delights at Shōbōsho, your dinner choices can't be beat.

End your night with a cocktail adventure - boutique bars are a plenty with delicious concoctions served at Paloma, Clever Little Tailor, Pink Moon Saloon and Proof, just to name a few.

For an adrenaline rush, the Adelaide Oval’s Roofclimb presents a thrilling perspective of the city. Stand atop the iconic Adelaide Oval for a sweeping panorama of Adelaide.

Visit the Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute, Australia's first Aboriginal-owned and managed arts centre. Evening
