Here are the answers to some of the frequently asked questions we receive about our famils.
StudyAdelaide is a South Australian government destination marketing and student support agency, working with over 50 education partners.
Famil is short for familiarisation tour and gives participants the opportunity to experience first-hand the education and lifestyle opportunities the destination has to offer students.
Return flights from your home country to Adelaide, accommodation, most meals including a Gala Dinner and farewell event, all transport requirements and amazing education and tourism experiences.
Travel expenses such as travel insurance, visa fees, passport renewal costs, transport outside the official program and incidental expenses are at your own expense.
Thursday 12 March to Friday 20 March 2026
StudyAdelaide will manage, book, and pay for your flight bookings via our selected travel agent. Flights will be return flights from your home country to Adelaide only.
To ensure all participants arrive in Adelaide to start the program on time, there is no flexibility on your arrival into Adelaide. You cannot visit other cities prior to the famil start.
If you wish to visit other cities post famil, please commence discussions with us as early as possible to avoid costly changes to flight itineraries. Please also note that visiting other cities post famil will mean that you forfeit your StudyAdelaide funded return flight, and the replacement return flight will be at your own expense.
Your visa support letter from StudyAdelaide will only cover the dates of travel that you will be in Adelaide.
It is strongly recommended that you have travel insurance, which is your responsibility to arrange.
No.
You will need to apply for your own visa. We ask that you begin your visa application process immediately upon receiving confirmation of your registration. Your market coordinator will provide a letter of support and flight confirmation details as quickly as possible to support your application.
If visa approval has not been received by Friday, 6 February, StudyAdelaide will need to cancel your participation to avoid costly accommodation and flight penalties.
If you application is with home affairs and waiting for a response, we will discuss this with you individually and assess on a case by case situation.
StudyAdelaide will make arrangements for your accommodation at a hotel on single occupancy. The hotel is centrally located in Adelaide, within walking distance to all necessary facilities. Free Wi-Fi is included at the hotel.
The famil will involve visits to campus and networking opportunities with Adelaide University, Flinders University, South Australian government and private schools, TAFE SA and other institution partners from the VET, ELICOS and higher education sectors.
The famil also includes activities to highlight the lifestyle and career opportunities Adelaide offers students.
The itinerary commences with an arrival flight into Adelaide on Thursday, 12 March 2026 and includes:
Yes, the program has been carefully considered to provide you with a well-rounded experience of Adelaide as a destination for international students. We will allow for some free time in the program, but due to the investment of time and budget that has gone into the program, it is expected that you attend all aspects of the program from 12-20 March 2026.
Yes.
All delegates will have the opportunity to visit the three state universities (Flinders University, University of South Australia, and The University of Adelaide), TAFE SA, SA Government Schools, and selected other partners during the famil.
