Halo, apa kabar?

I’m Adrian, but most of my friends call me Ian because you can’t spell BRILLIANT without IAN. I’m from Indonesia. Currently, I’m studying a Master of Inclusive and Specialised Education at Flinders University.

A brief explanation about me: I’m a Virgo and an ENFJ-A. I have a lot of hobbies, and they are always changing depending on my situation and condition. Currently, I enjoy creating video content on Instagram about my student life. Initially, I chose Adelaide because its name sounds aesthetic, but now I've truly fallen in love with this small city.

Hey there!

I’m Adriele, originally from Brazil, now soaking up the Aussie vibes in Adelaide. Stepping into the world of Civil Design Drafting at TAFESA has been an exciting journey for me since I arrived here last year.

Adelaide's friendly vibe and delicious food options have been a real highlight for me. When I'm not working on designs, I love trying out new recipes at home or checking out local restaurants to experience different cuisines.

One piece of advice I'd like to share with you is to savour every moment and appreciate the beauty around you, especially during those magical sunsets. Take time to pause, reflect, and soak in the beauty of life unfolding before your eyes—it's these simple joys that make the journey worthwhile.

Hello,

My name is Alice, and I am from Brazil. I am studying a Bachelor of Psychological Science with a major in Criminology at The University of Adelaide.

I am a very bubbly person that really likes meeting new people, always up for a good talk. I like to binge watch series with my brother and hang out with my friends, even if it's just to study. Reading and listening to music are also some of my biggest passions and I am always looking for new recommendations of my favourite genres (fantasy and horror).

My advice for the new international students is that people here in Adelaide are so nice and sweet, so when you have a chance to make new friends take it! Don’t be shy, everyone will love to learn about you. Don’t forget to work hard on your studies, but make sure to have healthy habits and take care of yourself. I hope you have the best stay here. I’m sure you will shine.

I’m Andrea, a Colombian student rocking a Master of Social Work at the University of South Australia. After working as a lawyer, I have immersed myself in a world where I can connect with people and hear their stories.

I’ve been in Adelaide for almost a year after a couple of years in Sydney and let me tell you — this city is something else. Imagine a warm cuddle that lifts your spirits and encourages you to dream big. Terrific, right?

You can find me juggling academic papers and work while hunting for perfect swimming spots.

My advice? Let yourself be seen. Listen to your inner authenticity because it will take you anywhere you dream. Step out of your comfort zone (again) and conquer the world ahead.

Heya!

I am Fabiha from the beautiful land of Bangladesh and I’m pursuing a Master of Information and Technology at the University of South Australia. Since 2023, I have called Adelaide my second home.

Packing my life in two pieces of luggage and shifting to a new country has been the craziest experience for me but also the most rewarding one! The compactness of Adelaide allows me to make multiple plans in a day and I love it! I also wholeheartedly enjoy how the locals here value work life balance.

As a fellow international student, I’d advise you to take every opportunity to meet new people, as your connections will be your most valuable assets. I recommend volunteering and working in local places to get accustomed to Adelaide’s culture. Last, but not least, don’t only delve into studies; keep exploring around and make the best out of your stay!

Hi, xin chào!

My name is Mai, and I am from sunny Vietnam. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of Adelaide.

Having spent almost two years in Adelaide, my love for this place grows bigger and bigger. Full of curiosity about the world, I love learning new things by experiencing and interacting with people around me. Reading novels, wandering in nature, watching Netflix, sports, and dancing are the things that keep my life interesting. Adelaide has been lovely and has given me a wide range of opportunities, helping me find myself.

Starting a new life thousands of miles away from your home comforts can be a bit scary, but we all love the adrenaline that it brings. It is completely okay to feel blue from time to time, totally normal to feel a little bit lost and out of control. But everything is going to be okay. One day, looking back, we will be grateful for the experiences we have had because they have helped us grow into the best versions of ourselves. My piece of advice would be to keep an open mind, try new things, be spontaneous, and never forget to support the people around you!

My name is Jiahui, I’m a second-year student from China studying a Bachelor of Nursing at Flinders University!

Adelaide is amazing for outdoor lovers like me, hiking, camping, picnics, and beach BBQs. There are so many amazing places to explore in this beautiful city. I am very passionate about sports too. Badminton and tennis are my favourites. I can’t wait for adventures in the waves every summer with snorkeling and surfing!

My best advice for international students would be to always believe in yourself and never let anyone bring you down. Just look at how far you have come. What I see now is a brave person, moving to a foreign country, overcoming language barriers and being independent. I am so proud of you, and you should be super proud of yourself as well! You are not alone, and we are always here for you.

My name is Khushbu Solanki and I’m from Navi Mumbai, India. I am a final year student at the University of South Australia where I’m pursuing a Master of Health Services Management.

It has been a year since I arrived in Adelaide (time truly flies!) and it feels like a breath of fresh air. It is a completely different pace of life, and I am loving every minute of it!

Life is generally not an upwards, straight path but Adelaide has given me the space and time, purpose, and people to learn to love every aspect of it and I am grateful for that! I enjoy going on long walks, making paintings and admiring them, and having deep and thoughtful conversations about studies, work, and everything in between!

One piece of advice that I would give to students would be to challenge yourself. Say yes to new opportunities and meeting new people from different walks of life, participate in events and of course build incredible connections and friendships as Adelaide has so much to offer. I have always been a strong believer in the saying ‘It is not the place or city you choose to study, it's the people out there who make you feel at home’.

Hello!

My name is Patricia and I’m from the Philippines. I completed a transnational double degree in my home country and sought to expand my expertise by pursuing further education here in Adelaide. Currently, I’m studying a Master of Business Administration with specialisations in Hospitality and Tourism Leadership and Digital Management at Kaplan Business School.

Considering myself a wanderer, I’ve traveled to different places, then, I stumbled upon a place that stood out differently (good different!) Adelaide. It was like love at first sight!

While I'm often described as a social butterfly by my friends, there are other sides to me—a ‘frustrated’ baker, a fan of mystery crime TV series, and a dog lover. Growing up in a busy city all my life, moving to Adelaide was a challenge, but the opportunities here are limitless and you’ll meet genuine people (like me *wink*).

My advice to my fellow international students, in every challenge lies an opportunity to grow, and in every encounter, a chance to learn something or meet someone new. Also, don't forget to acknowledge your progress from time to time, give a little pat or even cry, but most importantly, never forget to have fun along the way! I would love to share this moment with you.

Hello everyone, I'm Rifa! Hailing from Chennai, India, I'm currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Construction Management at the University of Adelaide.

I am someone with an insatiable curiosity to learn about everything under the sun. If I am not working on my assignments, you will find me hiking, volunteering, shooting some photographs, sharing memes, and getting my heart broken by my favourite Formula One team.

Fans of the TV show 'The Office' might be familiar with the poignant quote, 'I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them'. But in my case, I know precisely that I have been living some of the best days of my life here in Adelaide. I’m Tanatswa Mapholisa-Moyo , a student from Zimbabwe currently studying a Diploma of Technology (Advanced Programming) at TAFE SA.

Anything cybersecurity and programming gets my brain buzzing. But when I’m not coding, you can find me doing a couple of Ronaldo stepovers on the soccer pitch, watching EPL matches, hitting the gym for a quick workout, or grabbing a coffee (major addict!) while exploring Adelaide’s hidden gems.

Xiang (Shawn) Lui

Nihao!

I’m Liu Xiang, also known as Shawn, originally from China. I am in my first year of a Master of Social Work at Flinders University. Before moving to Adelaide, I worked as an accounting professional in Shanghai for 13 years. As one of the ‘older’ students, transitioning to a new field and a new country was a significant challenge, but I’m glad I did it. I enjoy exploring life in Adelaide with my friends. The city has so much to offer, from stunning beaches and wineries to scenic hilltops and delightful wildlife. I’m a huge fan of rock and roll music, especially from the 70s.

For newcomers to this city, my advice is to stay engaged and make the most of your time. This means participating in both academic and community activities and seizing opportunities as they arise. As an introvert, I want to specifically encourage my fellow introverts: you don't need complete certainty to begin something. Sometimes, you just need to try, and often, you'll do much better than you expect.
