Planning your exciting international student adventure? One of the first things on your list should be finding student accommodation in Adelaide. Thankfully, this amazing city is home to plenty of student-friendly suburbs - vibrant, interesting areas that offer both convenience and affordability.

1. Adelaide CBD 

With shopping, entertainment, gyms and most major university campuses on your doorstep, you can’t get more convenient than living in the CBD. You’ll find dedicated university accommodation in Adelaide, as well as plenty of purpose-built student accommodation, private rentals, share houses and more.  

Being the centre of town, you’ll also have plenty of transport options, including the free CBD tram and city connector buses.

2. North Adelaide 

Just a short walk away from the city, you’ll find the leafy suburb of North Adelaide. Here, you’ll find green spaces, heritage buildings, cafes, restaurants, boutiques and the stunning Piccadilly Cinema. 

Residential colleges mean there’s plenty of North Adelaide student housing to be found, as well as a free city connector bus. But, it only takes five minutes to walk from North Adelaide to the city centre! 


3. Norwood 

Head over to the east to find the trendy suburb of Norwood, known for its boutique shopping, gourmet food and lively nightlife, particularly along Norwood Parade. Catch a movie at the local cinema, take in a show at the concert hall or cheer on the local AFL team at Norwood Oval. 

There are also plenty of buses connecting Norwood to the CBD and surrounds, so you’ll find it easy to get around.

4. Prospect 

When it comes to affordable student accommodation in Adelaide, Prospect is a popular choice. Located north of the city, this friendly, laid-back area is known for being a melting pot, with restaurants and cafes serving up cuisine from all over the world.  

Just 20 minutes from the city by bus, it’s also very well connected, making it a great choice for students.


5. Henley Beach 

If your dreams of an Australian adventure include surf and sand, Henley Beach could be for you. Not only is this a great place to find Adelaide student housing, but this suburb offers an enviable beachside lifestyle, fantastic cafes and eateries and lots of amenities, too.  

It’s also located about 35 minutes from the city by bus, so you’ll find it easy to strike the perfect balance between study and fun. 



6. Mile End 

Named for its location just a mile from the city centre, Mile End is another great place to find Adelaide student housing. Most of the suburb is made up of old-style brick residential houses, except for Henley Beach Road, which is a mecca for international supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and more.  

Plus, located just 20 minutes from the city by public transport, you’ll get to enjoy the hustle and bustle of urban life alongside the tranquility of the suburbs.


7. Kurralta Park 

South-west of the city, you’ll find the multicultural suburb of Kurralta Park. With leafy residential streets and a local shopping centre, this suburb offers plenty of great amenities for students.  

Even better, Kurralta Park is located just 20 minutes by bus from Adelaide and 30 minutes from the much-loved Glenelg Beach.


8. Unley 

Just 2km south of the city, you’ll find Unley, a trendy neighbourhood known for its great amenities. You’ll find shopping centres, second-hand shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment abound. With plenty of gorgeous green spaces nearby, like Unley Oval and Peltzer Park, you’ll find plenty to love here.  

Unley is located just 15 minutes from the Adelaide CBD by bus.

9. Bedford Park 

The stunning suburb of Bedford Park is home to the main campus of Flinders University, making it perfect for those looking for university accommodation in Adelaide that’s a little further afield. You’ll find on-campus accommodation options, stunning parklands all around and plenty of amenities for the thriving student population. 

Although Bedford Park offers a quieter, more relaxed pace of life, you can also easily get to the CBD by train in just 22 minutes 


10. Mawson Lakes 

Head north of Adelaide to find the vibrant suburb of Mawson Lakes. Home to a University of South Australia campus, this area is also known as a major shopping precinct, offering an incredible array of restaurants and cafes. 

Buses and trains operate between Mawson Lakes and the CBD regularly, getting you from A to B in under an hour.
