People next to Adelaide tram 2A perfect mix

Ranked as the fifth most liveable city in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit for the past three years, Adelaide is home to tens of thousands of international students who enjoy life without the high cost of living or traffic congestion of larger cities.

One in five people living in Adelaide are originally from somewhere outside Australia; making it a welcoming, multicultural community. High quality local food, a mild climate all year round, parks and beaches close at hand, and a reputation for having a relaxed lifestyle means that Adelaide provides a perfect balance for international students seeking a home away from home.

Welcoming and safe

A compact city that is best explored on foot or bike, Adelaide’s streets are flat and easy to navigate because of its well-planned grid design. The city’s access to nature, air quality, lack of traffic congestion and mild climate make it a vibrant place where locals are friendly, kind and approachable.

While no city can claim a perfect safety record, Adelaide is well known for being safe. Named as Australia’s safest city by a national poll in 2013, Adelaide also holds the record for having the lowest level of crime per capita in Australia.

As well as being home to over 400 festivals and events each and every year, Adelaide’s international students have access to an outstanding onshore student engagement program which runs student specific events for free of charge or at a heavily discounted rate. Find out more about the upcoming events StudyAdelaide is organising.

Accessible Adelaide

Shopping and entertainment are never far from home in Adelaide thanks to its compact city centre and convenient public transport options. Adelaide is often called a 20 minute city because within 20 minutes by car there are magnificent beaches, wineries and wildlife of the beautiful Adelaide Hills.

Travelling interstate and overseas is simple, with direct flights from Adelaide to major Asian airports and all mainland capital cities. Serviced by the fastest growing airport in Australia for international services, Adelaide also has plenty of interstate coach services and is the hub for Australia’s rail network.
