One year after heading home to Argentina and Pablo Larrimbe’s career is off to a great start.

Pablo studied the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) program at Carnegie Mellon University – Australia’s Adelaide campus and graduated in December 2010.

Now, he is working as a Corporate Operations Engineer at Google’s Buenos Aires office in Argentina.

“My everyday duties include support to ‘Googlers’, maintenance of information technology infrastructure, as well as any IT related tasks which need to be performed at the office,” Pablo says.

“Given the variety, broad preparation in several IT areas is needed along with good communication skills in order to interact with remote teams.”

Pablo says his Masters degree helped him prepare for his role in the Google office.

“The culture of the company is similar to CMU-A in many ways – we get a lot of freedom to manage important things by ourselves.”

“My degree also taught me about team-working, including intercultural experiences, and learning how to deal with conflict and be a team player,” he says.

“I also learnt great communication skills and a passion for work.”

During his studies, Pablo also worked on-campus as a Teaching Assistant, delivering review sessions and helping classmates studying the Internet Technologies and Telecommunications Management courses. He also had the opportunity to tutor one of his peers.

Though back home, Pablo has fond memories of Australia, especially Adelaide.

“Australian in particular was a country of my interest,” he says.

“Adelaide is great, warm and very secure. There are several things to do nearby including the beach, wineries and an amazing zoo!”

“Last but not least, Adelaide is the cheapest city in Australia, which makes it a really interesting option for tight budgets,” Pablo says.

“I also think people in Adelaide are great and really open to every culture.”
