A Walk Through Adelaide

Yesterday I had a day off from everything, work, school, homework, EVERYTHING! When does that ever happen? A day with nothing to do. I am not one who likes to sit still. My days are always extremely full, and I’m always busy doing or working on something. Well yesterday I had the rare privilege of having a free day all to myself. I decided to go for a walk, something I enjoy but rarely get the time to do.
My day out started with a nice stroll down to the local train station, Cheltenham. I live out in the suburbs, which is great because I don’t live right in the city, but the transportation here is fantastic enough to get me to everywhere I need to go. Yesterday I travelled down to Port Adelaide. After reaching the port, as many affectionately call it, I went for a leisurely 1k walk  down to one of my favourite coffee shops. Australian’s love their coffee, and here in Adelaide there are a number of great little cafes where you can buy a nice cappuccino at a reasonable price. I sat down and ordered the cake and coffee special of the day, my day was off to a fabulous start. After taking the time to savour the homemade chocolate cake I had and honestly some of the best coffee I have ever had , I walked another  kilometre and arrived at the beach. The beach is one of my absolute most favourite places. The beaches here are warmer and nicer than the beaches in Oregon. Eventhough yesterday was quite cool, it was still a beautiful day to walk on the white sands of the Semaphore beach for about 2Ks. The breeze was chilly, but it didn’t stop several people from flying their kites or walking their dogs out on the beach. After walking on the beach for a while, I decided to take a walk down to Semaphore. Semaphore is a quirky little strip close to Port Adelaide that is known for its randomness, quirky shops, and cheap movie theatre. I stopped in a few shops, talked to some of the friendly locals, and made my way back up to the train station. I, thankfully, made it to the train stop right on time and was able to catch it as it was rolling to a stop. I caught the train and was off to the city. Once in the city I decided to walk random. I have been to the city several times for shopping, school, etc. but yesterday I wanted to explore. I walked down some blocks I had never been to before, admiring the beautiful old stone and brick buildings that are spread all across Adelaide. I found myself up at the Markets. This is always a fun place to go just to look around. I bought some fresh fruit and enjoyed it as I continued on my walk through the city. I made my way back around to the city centre and walked through all the shops, as I have done before, but yesterday there was no rush. I stopped to watch and enjoy many of the buskers who faithfully play their music day in and day out for all the Adelaide shoppers. I bought some fresh squeezed juice from a small stand, and after most of the crowd had left and as it was getting later I enjoyed the classic hits music being played through the speakers and the atmosphere of the city at night as I made my way back to the Adelaide Train Station.
I do enjoy those days like yesterday, when I can relax and enjoy this great city that I live in.
