Last week I made a quick trip down to Sydney to see some friends and family, and I had a blast! One of the best things about living in Adelaide is that it’s so cheap to fly to places like Sydney or Melbourne and enjoy the big cities, but then you get to come home afterwards and continue daily life in Adelaide, which in my opinion, is a much better place to live out every day life. The return flights to Sydney cost me about $140, which isn’t much for a vacation!
As I said above, the purpose of the trip was really just to connect with some extended family and friends that are staying in Sydney. It really saves a lot of money when you have friends that you can stay with, so try and make friends wherever you go!
I spent my first day visiting the Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia, which was such a neat thing to visit! I love contemporary art, and entrance into the museum is completely free, so it was quite an exciting visit for me. It was one of those things where I wished that I could have spent much more time looking around than I did, in order to appreciate everything, but it was so much fun while I was there!
That first evening I had dinner with some friends at a great restaurant called the Sea Rock Bar, which is very reasonably priced given it’s location in Circular Quay (pronounced Circular Key) looking out at the harbour bridge. The food there was delicious, so i’d recommend it to anyone who goes to Sydney!
We wrapped up the night by going to see the Vivid festival that they were having down by Circular Quay, and is basically a collection of videos and sculptures that feature absolutely stunning light. It was a damp and cool night in Sydney, but that didn’t stop us from having a great time looking at the various sculptures and video displays that they were running on the buildings.
I had originally planned on putting the whole trip into one post, but I did so much in a short period of time, that I’ll wait to tell you more about it! Sydney really is a beautiful place to visit, but Adelaide will always be the place that I’d want to live, because it’s such a safer, and more affordable city, with more community atmosphere.
Part 2 will be coming soon!
