International Honour

On October 12th I was honoured to receive an international student award from the Governor of South Australia for community engagement. Out of the over 31,000 international students in South Australia, I was chosen for the award, which is a statement that I’m still trying to process!                 The function at which the award was presented was held at Government House, which is this incredible mansion, surrounded by beautiful gardens, in the heart of the city. It’s quite a unique venue, and it was a lovely event. We got the best weather all week on the day of the event, … Continue reading

Back to the Books

This last week was my first week back at school since the mid-year break, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to write a little bit about the academic side of being on exchange.  The University of South Australia is a wonderful university that is really committed to improving every year and getting to a place where it’s recognized as one of the best universities in Australia, and in a country like this, they’re facing stiff competition. UniSA is known as one of the best up and coming young universities in the world, making the list of the top 50 … Continue reading

Serving the Community

Hi everyone! For this blog I thought I’d change it up a little bit and write about my experiences working in the community here in Adelaide. Ever since arriving here, I’ve loved this city, and a few months ago I really felt like it was time to serve others and help make this a better place to live. This blog is going to be about my experiences! I’ve been involved with several volunteer opportunities, but the one that I’m probably the proudest about is the Edge Assist Street Care that I’m a part of, which is out every Friday night … Continue reading

A Quick Trip to Sydney – Part 1

Hi everyone! Last week I made a quick trip down to Sydney to see some friends and family, and I had a blast! One of the best things about living in Adelaide is that it’s so cheap to fly to places like Sydney or Melbourne and enjoy the big cities, but then you get to come home afterwards and continue daily life in Adelaide, which in my opinion, is a much better place to live out every day life. The return flights to Sydney cost me about $140, which isn’t much for a vacation! As I said above, the purpose … Continue reading

Clare Valley

At the beginning of the study break in April I was really happy to spend some time with my family who are in town visiting from Canada, and now I’m going to take the opportunity to tell you all about it! Our first stop, and the one that this blog is all about, was in the Clare Valley, which is part of the wonderful wine country that can be found around Adelaide. You can go for just a day trip, but we decided to leave Thursday night and spend the night at a motor inn so that we could get … Continue reading

Lord Mayor’s Welcome

A few days ago Study Adelaide helped to organise and run one of the best events I have ever been to – The Lord Mayor’s official welcome for international students. The event was very special to me for several reasons, which I’ll talk about below, but just in general it was a first-class evening that was run seamlessly, and with flawless execution. A lot of credit should go to all the people who worked hard to make the evening a success. To begin with, I’ll give you a little background info about the event. Adelaide is home to over 30,000 … Continue reading

Kangaroo Island (Part 1)

Over the Easter long weekend, my visiting parents and I took the opportunity to go and spend a couple of days on the famous Kangaroo Island, which was definitely talked up by all the locals here in Adelaide. Everyone I told said that I would love it there, and plus, how could a place named Kangaroo Island not be amazing? This blog is going to be about our first day on the island, because we saw and did way too much to fit it all into one post! The day began VERY early, as we had to be at the … Continue reading
